BQ 1620..the cat's ***?

Postby jberry on Wed Oct 27, 2004 11:40 am

Man the reviews this drive has been getting.....I have been thinking of getting rid of my CW writer/DVD ROM combo (lg 4520). I already have the 4120b...think 2 writers would be good?

the cat's ass?

I've been testing a BenQ clone and have been less than impressed with the results I've been getting. Of course, they could be using an older version of the firmware...

Well, if you look at my review, and ONLY look at the K-Probe results, it's not that impressive looking. If you look at the Plextools results however, the story is quite different. Also, CDFreaks' K-Probe results are quite different from mine, despite using the same drive a scan speed.

Now that I'm re-running some more tests using the BenQ as the scanner (testing @8x) the results are very similar to the Plextools ones!

Deffinatly interesting to look at. I'll post some scans later.

It's essentially a rebadged DW1620.

How about the ability to record DVD-Rs at 16x? With the exception of CDFreaks, and at least one member of this forum, I don't know anyone else who has managed to do this. Even with the latest firmware, my BenQ DW1620 refuses to even consider 16x recording on any DVD-R media :( However.... that is my *ONLY* serious complaint now :D

with the new 1620pro version soon out, does this mean the 1620 will not have an upgrade to 4x dl?

I was able to (finally) with TY -R media. But that's it so far.

jberry, it will have a FREE upgrade to 4x DL some time next month.
