LG Announces 52x32x52x16x Combo Drive?

Postby craiger on Tue Sep 30, 2003 10:10 pm

Hi. I was doing a search on Yahoo for 52x32x52x16x drives and found this store selling them. Not sure if this is a good store. I never heard of it. They were selling it for $90.00. It didn't say if it was an OEM version. Thanks, Craig.

I've not heard of any LG 52x32x52x-16x combo drive. The fastest I know is the 52x24x52x-16x GCC4520BB, which goes for much less than $90:

I'm guessing it is a typo.

I haven't heard anything about that drive yet. However, anything is possible these days..

Drop them an email and see what's up.

Many people would disagree with the statement that LG is only mediocre. I've heard that they're actually pretty good drives.

I think LG's web site is down. When I click on it, nothing happens. Maybe they are updating it with new information?

I certainly don't doubt that Plextor drives are very high quality; I've heard very few bad things about them.

However, whether LG has a good web site is irrelevant in your argument that LG drives are mediocre. LG drives may be mediocre, but LG's web site has nothing to do with it. After all, I've seen other companies who have poor web sites and great products.

ksolomon, I have one other question. You have stated that LG drives are mediocre. Could you please provide some solid proof of this fact? The reason that I don't believe that LG drives are mediocre is because I have heard proof of the fact that they are good.

My guess is he doesn't have proof. If anything, he probably used an LG drive before and it pooped out on him. It happens. Even Plextor drives poop out now and then.

That's what I thought, too. That reminds me of a user who joined a long time ago (before I registered, but I was reading the CDRLabs forums) who claimed that all Lite-On drives were bad because he had used one Lite-On drive, and it died quickly.

Well ksolomon,
It's sad when you use language like that.I have used a great deal of drives from LG and will recommend LG drives to anybody who comes across me.I have used the LG 8080B,LG GCE-8240B and now a brother of mine uses LG GCE-8520B without any problems whatsoever.
Also don't forget that LG was the maker of CD-Writers for HP when only HP and Yamaha ruled the CD-Writers market.
See ya later,

LG drives were also the first drives to support 99min overburning if my sources are correct. Both the 8083B and the 8080B models are listed as having been able to overburn up to 99min :D (that would be the 4x4x32x and 8x4x32x drives)

That's pretty darn good in MY opinion... given that 80min CD-Rs weren't even the standard yet!

Hello!

LG is not Plextor, ok.

But LG-drives offers high quality, and the drives don´t cost much as a Plextor
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more

I currently own four LG drives: 2 CD-RW's and 2 CD-RW/DVD-ROM combos. I started out with one LG burner, and if I thought it was crap then I wouldn't have bought 3 more LG products.

I bet u a night with your mother that it never passes 6x..

Even Samsung combo drives don't pass 6X with DVD-/+R media. Are Samsung drives mediocre as well?

How's that? :D

Going back to the subject, has anyone contacted this company to see if its a typo or a real drive?
