ANy Sata dvd burners besides px712?

and what's the difference between the nec 3500 oem and retail? Just included software?

BenQ has an SATA version of their DW1620 in the works. I don't know about other manufacturers though.

OEM NEC's can sometimes have different firmware types, like Mad Dog, and HP, and Lacie all have different firmware versions from the retail NEC. Mad Dog generally seems to get the best firmware support I think, however the latest firmware release for the retail version of the NEC 3500a looks to be the most advanced version to date.

sorry those were 2 distinct questions. A sata drive would be useful because the only ide slot i have is connected to my dvd ROM which means slow disc to disc copying. IM thinking about getting a controller card, but i dont feel like it for now.

And who sells the NEC 3500 retail? I thought newegg was supposed to have it!

Right now they're selling it through PC Connection, CDW, Tiger Direct, and PC Mall.

I was kinda surprised that they weren't selling at like Best Buy until I saw the retail kit. It comes in a plain brown box. :x If I remember right, NEC will be shipping drives to other places in early 2005.
