etp; The way I see it this drive ($39.99 shipped at newegg.com) is the same as 1608. Also about a month ago I also bought A Pioneer DVD Recorder/VHS Combo (Stand Alone for TV) from Sam's Club, I can now easily convert any of my VHS tape to DVD format and record any program or movie directly from TV. It is Pioneer DVR-RT500 (DVD Recorder & VCR) which I bought for $249.99.

Actually I have needed this and was waiting for a great sale, and Ian provided a lead that turned out even better. $129 shipped is an awesome deal if it works even close to advertised!

I need the ability to record off my Sat Dish HDTV tuner. No more VCRs for me ripit(dark ages stuff).
My tuner does not have a built in hard drive and I did not want to pay for a $700 upgrade or a $300 HD recorder. The HDTV channels have great music programs from time to time as well as other items(its a toy).
I know I can't record in HDTV quality but I can at least get a SVideo feed off the dish.
Plus it will double as a progressive scan player and camcorder DV DVD producer. But since I have fire wire cards on all my computers, that function may never be used.
