Are 48x TY Fujis just as good as the 40x ones?

In my experince, no. The 48x discs when burned at 40x still had a few damaged spots on them, while the 40x rated discs did not. However, that my have just been my drive; the Lite-On 48125W's are a bit picky about the discs they'll burn (at least mine was).

I haven't tried any of them with my new Plextor yet, though.

I have tried both the 40x and 48x Fuji disc on my TDK 48x drive with the same results. They both turned out very well. I think each person's cd-rw drive will produce different results because some drives are just more media picky than others.
