ASUS A8N and SATA

Postby Nocturnal on Thu Mar 24, 2005 5:10 am

Does anyone know if the A8N off the bat without installing any drivers will recognize my Plextor 716SA along with my two SATA HDDs?

I'm guessing you will probably need to provide drivers before the OS will be able to recognize SATA drives.

Keep in mind that a lot of optical drives have problems with non-Intel SATA chipsets. I have not tried the NVIDIA chipsets, but I've had problems with VIA and others.

Make sure you have the latest FW for your 716SA.. 1.05 IIRC. It *should* work ok, as people at the [H] have reported, but still.. YMMV.

Go to the BIOS in motherboard, there two IDE Controller, one for ATA Parallel and one for SATA, have both in auto or enable position then save and reboot. Windows will recognize the SATA drive now.

It worked. I'm not sure what bios or what FW I have on my 716SA but it did work fine.
