I have had both.

:( The EW162I is only USB2, UltraDMA-2, and will only burn to 12X.

:D The 716UF is both USB/Firewire, UltraDMA-4, and will burn at 16X on Firewire.
Using Plextor 716UF...
Using BenQ 1620...
Thinking about BenQ 1640...
Would love a BenQ Blu-Ray...

PX-716UF will burn at 16X on USB2.0 as well, depending on the USB chipset the port you connect it to uses. I know on my PC I can get 16x when connected to the USB ports of the ICH4 southbridge of my motherboard, but not when connected to my add-in PCI USB2.0 card which uses an NEC chipset.
