Buffer Underrun errors in Samsung 348B

Postby Bibhash on Mon Oct 20, 2003 10:38 am

I always have these buffer underrun errors, even when burning at slow speeds like 32X. Does anyone know why Samsung 348B would suddenly spin down midway between burning sessions and then give Buffer Underrun Errors?

I am using firmware version T506 for COM. I have just downloaded the latest firmware i.e, T511 from Samsung ODD's website. Is there anyway to UNDO CHANGES to my drive if this update messes up the drive further? Plz help me cuz i am a complete newbie when it comes to flashing CD drives.

My system specs are P4 1.8 Ghz, 512 MB DDR ram and Samsung 40GB HDD running WinXP with ASPI layer ver 4.60

Welcome to CDRLabs! :D

The first thing I would suggest that you check is that DMA is enabled. This might be causing the problem. There are instructions to help you enable DMA in the FAQ forum here at CDRLabs.

If that doesn't help, the firmware upgrade would be a good idea. You might be able to revert to an older firmware if you needed to, but I'm not sure if this is possible or not with Samsung drives.
