can't flash LTR-52246S firmware 6SOF from 6SOD? WTF?

Postby SkaarjMaster on Sat Apr 03, 2004 1:05 am

I have this Lite-On burner on my Win98SE computer and just checked tonight and noticed new firmware, so I thought I'd update it. Well, it didn't work with 2 reboots and kept saying "program error, if problem persists...."

Is this new firmware for XP only? It just says Windows at the Lite-On site. What could be wrong? No big deal, but would be nice to have the latest firmware. Thank you.

If using Windows 98/ME, then you need to have ASPI installed properly. ForceASPI is the best version to use for Liteon Windows Flashers.

Nope, installed the new ASPI layer and it still didn't work.

Anyone have any idea why I still can't flash it? I also can't flash on old 4.8X Toshiba DVD-ROM either (SD-M1202 I think).

Have you tried using Flashfix on the firmware you downloaded?

Yep, just tried it just now and it didn't work. I still get the "This program has performed an illegal operation......." error. :(

Is this Flashfix only for Lite-On drives or can it work for my Toshiba DVD-ROM as well?

try using mtkflash or mtkwinflash. You might wanna try a boot disk and flash in dos.

Well, I used LtnFW and DLed the Bin file from a site mentioned in the forum thread mentioned at the Mtkflash site. The Control Panel/System/CD-ROM section shows the firmware as the latest 6SOF, so I guess I'm all right.

I'm not going to worry about the Toshiba DVD-ROM; it's about 5 years old anyway. Thanks!
