CDR related question

Postby TekDawg76 on Mon May 19, 2003 4:58 pm

Hi all.
I have an XP Home based machine that I just messed up the CDR drive. I just reformatted recently, installed Win98 and put my XP Home upgrade over it. Come to find that my CDR no longer performs the R function. Figuring the machine needed drivers updated, I was able to find a newer release of firmware for the drive. It's a Philips CDD4851, it's an OEM part off an HP machine that I had to revamp and upgrade. Of course the machine crashed during the firmware update and now the system no longer sees the drive and during boot up I get an error that the drive is ATAPI incompatable press F1 to continue. I have tried running the update again to find that it can also no longer see the drive. Anyone have any idea how I can get the drive back. I'm sure I need to flash it again, but with no access to the drive what can I do? Any info is much appreciated. If any more system info is needed, please ask.

Welcome to CDRLabs, TekDawg! :D

The CDD4851 is the 12x8x36x drive, right?

What was the original firmware version on your drive, and how was it identified in Windows before the flash? What version did you try to flash it to?

Does Windows still show any mention of the drive in device manager?
