disapearing cd-rw

Hello folks,

It's very strange, but sometimes my cd-rw just seems to 'disapear' from my system. The program that was using the cd crashes (of course) but the strange thing is that the drive letter (E:) also vanishes in the Internet Explorer.

System:
P4; 2,4 GB
Win 98
CD-RW drive from Sony (do you need the serial number?)

Has anyone an idea what's wrong, and how to solve this?

try checking that all your cables are secure, this has happened to me and the molex connector wasnt all the way plugged in.
