Drive Shudders

Postby CowboySlim on Wed Feb 16, 2005 2:54 am

When I put a disk in my NEC ND-3500A the drive stutters or shudders or ratchets for a minute or two and then stops and can't recognize the media. I've replaced the connecting IDE cable and checked the Molex connectors.

Is this drive dead? :(

Has it always made this noise? Does it recognize any media?

I've tried different media including a pressed distro CD and it still chatters. Just started last night. Check for it on Ebay (just kidding).

sounds like the drive is taking a shit, if you leave the room and let it do its business everything should be ok in a little while

but you missed your chance at getting a nec 3520 for $59 shipped, i would've suggested on getting one of those
Thermaltake Core X5 Snow Edition TG Case
Corsair RM1000 Power Supply
MSI X399 Gaming Pro Carbon AC
AMD Threadripper 1950x @ 4.1GHz
Custom Loop w/ EK MSI x399 Monoblock
G.Skill 4x8GB DDR4 3200 RGB Memory
MSI 1080Ti Lightning X Video Card

Hi Slim;

Try to reflash your drive f/w and then try it again and report the result.

Yeah, I tried reflashing with same result.

I bought it from a small, shopping center type reseller, repair, white box builder in Santa Ana. I took it back there and he is going to RMA it as it is OEM and I can't. He guarantees it for one year.
