DRU500a read performance improvements with 1.0f firmware

Postby bac on Fri Dec 06, 2002 2:57 pm

I just successfully upgraded my dru500a from 1.0d to 1.0f firmware.
I've tested DVD-R read performance with nero cd speed.
With 1.0d, the read speed was capped at 2X. Now, the read speed
is capped at 4X.

This is pretty good news for doing immediate verification of dvd burns.

Agree. Now they only need to double the dvd+/-r read speed cap
one more time to reach the advertised dvd-rom read speed of 8X.

I think you guys might wanna know. I am burning (as we speak) a DVD movie with my DRU500A at 4x on the new Ritek 4x disks (purchased at meritline.com in jewelcases for $3.09 each - just to try). So far so good. Will let you know there are any read problems, etc; intending to run Nero DVDSpeed on the disks with both Liteon163D and the DRU500. Will keep you guys posted.

If all goes well, I will be ordering some more of these, espcially since the prices are coming down. This drive is great!!!

This is what I posted in the other thread on this forum::

Just tested out my 4x DVD burn referenced above. Works fine in my dvd drive and plays back the movie (it seems) without a hitch. Here is the nero dvdspeed shot - very good - I think.

Image

The drop offs correspond to RPM dropoffs, thats from using the computer and starting other programs while the test was ruinning. No quality related slowdowns. Incidentally, this test was done onmy 163D. The same (without a hitch) test was done on the 500A, and the read speed was indeed capped at 4x.
