Help with Benq dw1620?

Postby h-goku on Thu Jan 13, 2005 6:58 am

I am thinking of buying the benq dw 1620 from ebuyer.com. they have got the retail version and the oem version. I would like to know what the difference is between them and the comments made by the people in ebuyer regarding difference in oem and retail version is very confusing.

I'll give you the url, so you can explain the difference between the drives and advise me on which one to buy:
*retail version - http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products ... _uid=75719

*oem version - http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products ... l&offset=0

(please go right to the bottom to read rewiews)

In a nut-shell:

If you buy a Retail Benq = you get the fancy BenQ faceplate, DVD software, BenQ's special software and a 1-year warranty from BenQ.

If you buy a ReBadge (like IOMagic) = you get a plain faceplate, DVD software, and a 1-year wawwanty from the ReBadger.

If you buy OEM (bare) = you get the plain faceplate, no software, and maybe a 1-year warranty. Make sure that the seller of the OEM unit gives you a warranty. You can't get BenQ to help you directly.
Using Plextor 716UF...
Using BenQ 1620...
Thinking about BenQ 1640...
Would love a BenQ Blu-Ray...

thank you for the reply so it is better to get the retail version than the oem version.

You forgot the other european option you buy
Philips OEM version and get 2 years of waranty, ugly philips faceplate however the question remains if Benq's tools will work on that one.

I paid $50 Canadian for an OEM version...then cross flashed to retail 1620

I don't need software or face plate....or warrant really...this stuff is so cheap anyway. Never buy retail unless it is on sale and/or with a mail in rebate
