In House Review - Lite-On LVW-5001 DVD Recorder

Postby Ian on Mon Mar 01, 2004 10:36 am

Over the years, we've brought you reviews of many of Lite-On's products. Today we take a look at something new. The LVW-5001 is Lite-On's first stand alone DVD recorder. Based upon their award winning CD and DVD technology, the LVW-5001 can write to both DVD+R and DVD+RW media and supports most multimedia formats including DVD, VCD, SVCD, Audio CD, MP3 and JPEG.

Emphasizing ease of use, the LVW-5001 features one touch recording as well as Lite-On's new "Easy Guider" wizard. This new DVD recorder also includes things like a built in TV tuner, progressive scan output, and a front mounted DV Link input connection. Of course, this is only a taste of what the LVW-5001 has to offer.

are there any stand-alones units that does?

i've seen the computer units one that can do write to dvd and cd media, but haven't noticed any home theatre units on the reviews or forums

thanks for the help

The LVW-5001 cannot write to CD media. However, the Lite-On LVW-5005 can. I'm working on a review of it right now.

LVW-5005?!?!?!

Postby DTDLex on Thu Mar 18, 2004 6:03 pm

Thanks for the help.
Seems from my browsing, is the LVW-5005 the only one around that can do -, +, and cd-rw?
it's out already for around $350, just anxiously waiting for your review and hopefully green light :-) (any idea when that'll be done?)

also, have you heard of the lvw-5010 (5005 w/ hard drive) or lvw-5020 (5005 with usb) and their release dates?

Seems like Lite-On is really respected in these circles.

thanks a lot for all the info

Ian,
Thank you for all the valuable info.
Don't mean to rush you or anything, but Computers4sure only has 3 of these units left.
It seems you liked the 5001 quote a bit. So far, is the 5005 a thumbs up in your opinion?

Sorry to bother you and thanks for all the help, just didn't want them to run out, lol

Thanks,
DTD
