How many times in a row??

Postby ryus on Sun Feb 02, 2003 4:06 am

I just wanted to know what you guys here think about burning cds, a large amount in a row??

Sometimes I burn like 20 cds nonstop. Are Cd writers built to write all day long?? And still have a long life span??

I've burned 30-40 CD's in a row before with no side-effects on my CD-RW drive. However, my CD-RW drive does get warmer than usual when doing a bunch of burns in a row. I think CD-RW drives are made to handle the task, since companies do use CD-RW drives to handle hundreds of hundreds of burns for their business. But if a company needs a huge mass of CD replication, industrial stamping of CD's is the only way to go.

The most CDs I've ever burned in a row is about 40 or so, with my old 48125W. I'd end up giving it a break every 5 or CD's, because that drive got HOT. Same way when ripping CD's, though. I'd stop every 5-6 CD's to let it cool down (the CDs were coming out of the drive quite hot). I wasn't so much worried about damaging the drive; I was worried about the CD's themselves.

plextor has a good reputation that way...

As I have said before on here, I know people who literally burn CDRs all day long, 9-5, and have no problems.

From this, I have determined that Plextor, Mitsumi, LG and Teac seem to hold up best for this purpose. Surprisingly, Yamaha and Samsung give trouble after a few hours, especially the newer ones.
