Last BD/HD Combo Drive?

Postby hoxlund on Sat May 25, 2013 5:49 pm

What was LG's last BD/HD Combo drive? And I'm right in thinking that only LG did that right?

I was curious, maybe even picking up one just for nostalgia sake. I want their last drive they made that also burned bluray since blank HD discs never came out

Yeah, I think the GGW-H20L was the last. I have one in my collection somewhere.

Yep, still have one hooked up in here from when the format wars were raging and just after. Seems to work well enough though the included BD-RE disk only lasted about 5 burns and I still don't have the money to be buying blanks right now. Now if I could figure out how to get all those HD DVD's I collected into a format my media players can use I could sell them off and retire it I guess. I finally have more Blu Rays then HD DVD's but it took a while as the fire sales shortly after the format died were pretty good.

you could just rip them to straight isos using imgburn and slysoft anydvd and then burn them on bd-r(dl) discs

you wouldn't lose any of the quality

and if your talking about set top media players like a popcorn hour, those should play bluray/hddvd isos

Yes, they should and my main one does normally play the ones I make from BD movies but the one I just tried from a HD DVD disk wouldn't play for whatever reason. I can probably make a BD disk of it though that works if I ever get more blanks and I guess I'll have to try my older WDTV Live player and see if it likes it or try a different program to make the ISO just in case as I used a older copy of Any DVD to make the ISO. I also have a newer Pivos Aios player and the hacked firmware support for it has been almost as good as it was for the Live, plus Pivos supports all the hacking and mods directly and even hired the guy that is mainly responsible for all the better semi official updates =D> All I know is life is so much easier since I networked in some kind of media player and got a few big external drive to store everything on and watch when I feel like it.
