Liteon 40125S just gave up the ghost

Postby seaegg on Thu Sep 04, 2003 2:59 pm

Well my Liteon 40125S just died making it the 1st burner ever to die on me. So I went & bought a Liteon 52246S Retail and right out of the box the eject button doesn't work. This seems to be an omen telling me to stay as far as possible away from Liteon drives. I'm amazed because I've used their drives for a while now.

What happened to your 40125S?

I'm surprised that your 52246S didn't work. In my experience, Lite-On drives have been very good; in fact, they are the best drives that I've used. I would recommend that you get another Lite-On, even though such experiences as yours can be rather discouraging. I know how it feels; I had the same thing happen with three hard drives a few months ago.

Believe it or not I got the Eject Button to work and you guys just aren't going to believe how. I decided to unhook the SPDIF cable from the drive and from by sound card and lo and behold the Eject Button now works like a charm. Unbelievable but true. I now have no sound cables hooked to the drive but I can always use my DVD Burner to preview any music.

seaegg: If you're using Windows XP, you don't need an audio cable to hear music from your optical drive. You can use your IDE cable to do it. Go to Control Panel->SYstem->Hardwar->Device Manager->DVD-CDRom drives->The drive you want->Properties. In that, click on the "enable digital audio for this CDROM device.
