liteon 48x12x48 "WRITE ERROR - PADDING BLOCKS ADDED&quo

Postby pkstar7070 on Fri Sep 26, 2003 11:32 am

hi there, my liteon'd been working flawlessly til yersterday when i forcily restarted the pc because the drive got stuck (freezing, the light kept blinking slowly, looked as if it was trying to read the disc) trying reading an old cd-r. After the reboot the drive wouldn't burn anymore, keep getting the error message (see the title). Using alcohol 120% i noticed during the burning process, the speed fluctuated alot, it'd get to the desired speed then drop down to 2x suddenly and the light would turn to yellow and so on, eventually a coaster :x . the pioneer A06 in the same machine is burning cds at 16x without any problem however. I installed the liteon drive in my old machine and guess what, it burns at 48x w/ no problem
here are some info:
1, Athlon 1700, 768M, 120G HD, defraged, no programs running at background when burning
2, DMA enabled already in winxp.
3, alcohol 120% with burn proof enabled.
4, no coaster @48x until yersterday :-? .
5, tried 80Pin and 40pin cables to no avail
6, firmware uptodate but not likely the issue.
7, re-installed winxp recently  .

Can anyone help me troubleshoot the problem? thanks

Welcome to CDRLabs! :D

After trying the Lite-On in your old PC, did you try putting it back in your newer PC?

i did just that and the drive seems to be working again, burned 1 cd at 32x , simulated 3 cds at 40x with no problem whatsoever :o :o :o .
I'll have to do more tests to find out if the problem indeed is gone but this is a good start, thanks for your help.
