Here's a thread where someone burned an image on TY02 8x + (quality media) thru a NEC 3500, BenQ 1620, and Lite-on 1633. The BenQ had significantly lower PIFs then the other 2.

Hox, is there a big difference between the 108 and the A08xl. I know there is a big price difference, but in performance, is there a difference? I'm looking for a new drive and I was looking at this one yesterday. Any feedback welcomed. Thanks.

burning quality is the same, the a08xl just looks cooler

to me its not worth the extra money to have a cooler looking drive

Thanks, I might just order it today. I have a Litey 851SX and experience some issues with media. And I was looking at this one because I think it has better compatibilty with more media, right? thanks.

Another vote for the Pioneer DVR-108/A08XL. Picked one up yesterday. I could immediately see a big difference in high manufacturing quality compared to the LG drive that I tried.

so just curious, what made you spend almost $70 more on the a08xl?

Hrmm... The difference for me would be about $15 for the blingin black aluminum front panel 8)

In sunny CA, the Pioneer DVR-108 would be closer to $90 shipped. JandR.com has the A08XL for @ $135 shipped (or about $105 after a $30 MIR).

BestBuy had the drive in black for $120 after rebate and I had store credit that I needed to use.
