MSI Burner died!!!

Postby KrazyIvan on Tue Dec 02, 2003 12:37 am

I can't beleive this. Some of you may remember about a month ago I asked for help on an Artec burner. It crapped out on me and I ended up buying an MSI CR52-M Well that just died on me and I am 1 day outside of the limit for returning it back to NewEgg!!!! :x SO now I have to RMA the drive back to MSI. I tested it under DOS and it cannot read a thing. I can't beleive this.

I'd give new egg a call and tell them that little fact. If you get a good person I'd bet they'll let you return it as long as your nice about it. 1 day out is kinda close, not 40 days out.

Well I call New Egg and they were very nice and told me I could exchange the burner through them for up to a year. While we were troubleshooting the drive started working again and has been working since. :o I don't know what made the drive not work not even in DOS but it's fixed now. Go figure.

Well it's always possible you have a loose power cable or something like that and it stopped working. I have had that happen quite a bit, after some time the connecters get loose and I loose the drive till I retweak the pins/slots.

I checked the cables and the drive never lost power. I replaced the IDE cable just in case though. It is still working and I just burned another 7 CD's since. 8)

Well good deal, I hate having to take anything back, either becuase it's broken, or becuase I made a mistake.
Guess the OS or something could have had a burp too. You've got the problem on record so you should be good if it takes a hike again.

I figured out what is messing with my drive.

I have never seen this before but I think I know what is messing with my MSI burner. McAffee Virus Scan. :o The burner died on me again and I could not get it to read CD's. On a hunch i disabled McAffee and the burner worked again. :-? Has anyone seen this before? :-?

I had my first burner a Yamaha 4260 start blue screening every time I tried to access a disk. I played with it a bit and finally sent it in for repair, all my other readers worked fine. I got it back it still did it so I took it to a friends and it worked perfectly
So I started looking at drivers and what was installed together. I think it turned out to be Adaptec easy cd creater was messing up the other programs I had which then cuased a conflict with the burner. I got rid of it and no more problems with the burner till I upgraded to a faster unit.
