Yet again the Marketing machine at Nero falls short. As I've always said, you take care of your exisitng customers before the new ones. They are the ones you derive the most revenue from Craig. Upgrade links aren't working despite the fact that it's on the FTP server. People must not be reviewed on execution.

Nero 7

Postby compman on Mon Oct 31, 2005 9:02 pm

I agree with Taz 100%. The way Nero has handled this release as it relates to current customers has really PISSED me off. I may take special steps to avoid the purchase of Nero 7 because of it. I have never seen this type of behavior by a software company before....hell, any company for that matter.

It's just amateur behavior from a company that has such a large installed base. Not to mention one would assume that as we go through progressively bigger launches, Nero 5, 6, Reloaded, now Nero 7 someone would have put their thinking cap on or figured it out.

Also, Nero seems to have stepped backwards in version 7 with respect to updates. Nero 6 had a "Check for Updates" button. I can't find that feature in Nero 7. Oh well, I guess that's progress!

It's buried in the StartSmart.

Click on the flame icon (Nero ProductCenter) in the lower left of the StartSmart window.

Going back to some of the issues with the Nero 7 update. I thought the huge ass updates were supposed to be a thing of the past? 100MB download? Ugh..

I found the product update feature in Nero 7. Open Nero SmartStart, then click on "Extras" at the top. After that click on "Launch Nero Product Setup." Choose "Update your Nero products," then click "Next," then click "OK." When I click "OK" again, I get a message saying "MSI starter has encountered a problem ...." So far, no update available that way.

Well, there you have Nero 7's check for updates feature. Easy to find and highly functional - Bravo Nero!

And, it gets better. Using "My Nero," I obtained a link to the update. Too bad it doesn't work.

Oh well, I guess I could use the link provided in this thread. Of course, that would be cheating! :)

So what's up with Nero Scout? I never set up the damn feature be installed. Just Nero, Image Drive, Recode and Vision.

There is a reg hack out there to disable if people don't want it.

Craig, you guys might want to be sure you include Nero Scout as an option in the install process. It's a bit too invasive to be installed without asking the user.

Still waiting on the upgrade email from Nero to boot. Again, just plain shitty launch execution.

I'm half wondering if I even qualify for an upgrade after reading the upgrade info... I upgraded from 5 to 6.

Wouldn't that be comical if Nero doesn't offer it to customers that have had a long standing relationship with the company and its products?

I installed Nero 7 to tried its TV capture function, but only to find out it does not support HDTV capture... #-o

kind of disappointing because that was what I was mainly looking for. Oh well...
