Postby scuzy on Sun Dec 08, 2002 5:31 am

i can finally burn these ritek medias that use to only burn at 1x with old firmware at 2x that's pretty cool. ritek dvd-r is capable of 2x on pioneer with certain firmware but it's also works on the new sony firmware.

Yup with the new firmware I can burn at 2x on the unbranded Ritek 2x certified from Hyper Microsystems ($89 for a spindle of 100). On the 1.0d they would only burn at 1x.

Even better the 1.0f now enables 2x recording on the cheapest media I had ($0.69 cents per disc), which previously only did 1x (and was never 2x advertised). This burner keeps getting better and better. :)

For me I can do 2x on 4.7GB Accu DVD-R ACU-DVDR4.7G-100 (Silver/Purple) Media with the new firmware when before I was limited to 1x.

The $69 dollar spindle of 100 from HyperMicro works good for me (silver on topside, purple on bottom).

Thanks for the info!
I had been waiting for 4X media, but at almost $3 a disc versus 69 cents for media that can be written at 2X, it might not be worth getting 4X just yet.

Then again, my time is worth much more than the difference, so if I burn often, maybe I should get 4X media.
Oh well, I'll try not to take forever to decide LOL.

I do have almost 30 blanks (mostly Princo true 2X-rated) left over anyway, so I don't need to rush.

can you tell who makes that media? other places I have gotten generic DVD-Rs were all made by TDK.

Is there an ID tool I can use to see who manufactured the disc?

Watch out for generic so-called TDK media.. sounds like someone's putting TDK on non-TDK disks...

I know, or am lead to believe, these are TDK DVD-Rs from the pre-recorded information in the lead-in using ADVDInfo.

00 6A 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 98 0C 13 .J...@....P.....
76 78 80 00 03 54 44 4B 47 30 32 00 04 30 30 30 VX...TDKG02..000
30 30 30 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 000.............

that doesn't mean that someone else cannot put that info on them (as the last post suggests). I get good results burning @ 2x with all of them and out of about 50 burnt, I have yet to make a bad DVD.

I believe supposedly those TDK discs are not TDK discs. There was a story about them being fake. They appear to be generic right?

I think Stereodude was correct in his post about fake TDKs...

here is what TDK emailed me in reference to the DVD-Rs I have:

Question/Comment: I recently bought some "generic" DVD-Rs. using a utility to see the pre-recorded information in the lead-in, I get the text below:

00 6A 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 98 0C 13 .J...@....P..... 76 78 80 00 03 54 44 4B 47 30 32 00 04 30 30 30 VX...TDKG02..000 30 30 30 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 000.............

are they real TDK DVD-Rs? I read a story about some other manufactures using your product codes. is this the same thing? is there a better way for me to tell if they are? the packaging says "Made in Taiwan" on the bottom. thanks for any information you can provide.

Reply:
These are most likely not real TDK discs, as currently TDK discs are made in Japan. This would appear to be situation described here: http://www.tdk-europe.presscentre.com/c ... 20Releases

and here:

http://www.tdk.com.sg/newsroom/dvdmidcase.php

Obviously, the product codes are not a foolproof way to determine who the manufacturer of the discs are. It can be difficult to tell, especially with the no-label discs (TDK discs with the top label will, of course, have the TDK logo on it).

For now, if they are labelled "Made in Taiwan", they aren't TDK discs--of course this may not be true in the future

Thank You
Media Support Department
TDK Electronics Corporation.

with that said, www.allmediaoutlet.com never stated they were TDK only 2X DVD-Rs. and for the price I cannot complain. I have not had any problems burning any of them and I have burnt over 50 of them.
