Whenever i try to play a DVD with WINDVD i get that error msg....
can someone plz try to help me figure it out?

my DVD drive is JLMS XJ-HD166S and iam running Win XP Pro

When i try to make ISO'Z under some special programs like Alcohol 120%, my LG cd-rom won't read a cd with more than 20x. I have to specify that DMA is enabled and my system is running under Windows Xp Service Pack 1.
It's interesting that my Plextor drive works really cool in comparisson with the LG drive...
Anyone, please give me a hint>>>!

I'm having a little problem with my LG cd-rom. Under Windows Xp (Service Pack 1), when I insert a new data or audio cd in the drive, the system hangs for a few seconds until the cd is read. I can overrun this by disabling Autoplay from registry. But I want Autoplay!!! If i disable it i have to manually click on the cd drive in windows explorer so that my cd-rom could read the ...

Hi guys, annoying newbie to upgrading here.

Can anyone tell me what "firmware" is in layman's terms ? At the momment I have an LG GCE-8160B CD RW and it's not madly fast. If "firmware" refers to the software it uses I was interested in seeing if mine is the latest version.

I have a Dell Dimension PC with win98SE (3 years old). For the last couple of months whenever I insert a CD into the CD-ROM drive, the system comes to a halt and nothing works. Finally I have to reboot the system.
It was not happenning all the time earlier. But it is very frequent now - almost for every CD. The CD drive is LG CRD8400B.

For the beggining I intend to use it extensively as a CDROM too, so it MUST be a very good CD / CDR / CDRW reader (C2 level corection, DAE quality and so on). a few questions for the owners of this drive:

1. does the Asus CD-S520 CD-ROM drive support C2 error reporting?
i.e. do CDSpeed ScanDisc and CD Quality Test work correctly on this drive?

2. how does it perform with CD-RW discs?

3. how good is it at reading scratched CDs?
