i am considering to buy a dvdrom but i cant decide.

i am thinking about a liteon dvd rom but i see that they're not producing dvdrom's under their brand (@ liteonit there is no info about dvdroms)

instead of liteon, here they sell a brand called pacific digital that i dont know about them.

so can you suggest me a dvd rom that has good ripping capability & reliability like old lite-ons ?

I'm going to get a whole new system and have been told that WIN 2000 OS is the most stable. I'm using WIN ME and am told it's junk!

I'm thinking of the ASUS P4-S8X, P4 2.0, SB Live 5.1, 256MD DDR (2700)
GeForce 440 video card, WD 80GB HDD (8MB). I think that covers every-
thing. I can get it locally for $650.00. Is this a good system with every-

My Western Digital 80GB with 8MB cache is set as my primary slave. The transfer mode is Multi word DMA-2. My primary master is a 40GB IBM, set to Ultra DMA-5.

I have reviewed the FAQs but I did not notice anything about Multi word DMA-2. I am wondering if this is the optimal configuration for the Western Digital drive.

I just bought a 10 pack of KHypermedia DVD-Rs in-store to tide me over
till any online orders I place today come in.
I wanted some to use while I am off next week

The discs looked similar to the 5 pack wityh jewel cases, and the media ID is the same (CMC...)

The first two produced coasters on my DRU-500A (1.0g) - One was tried at 2X, the other at 1X ...

Ok, well I used up my 50 pack spindle of "Accus" from CDRDVDRMEDIA yahoo store so I purchased a 100 pack. In they come. Right off the bat I notice that the rim is more opaque and there are small 'bubbles' (?) in the rim. Also the purple data side is much lighter in color and the discs read as "Sony" vs "Lead Data". I've seen Sanyo 16X CD-R's dirt cheap here and i'm wondering whether they are worth getting?
Would anyone know if they can be burnt at a greater speed? I have a Lite-On 48X 24X 48X.
And anyone know what manufacturer makes Sanyo CD-R's? I'm guessing CMC.
