What's a reasonable video editing software for beginners?

I tried using NeroVison Express 3 (that came with my burner), to cut out 200MB out of a 850MB mpeg file and Nero is telling me tha's too big of a cut and the rest of the mpeg file can not be used. (e.g. let's says the complete 850MB original mpeg file is 1(beginning of file) to 10(end of file), and I want to cut out a section between 6 to 8, so my end ...

Huge differences?-AVI & MPEG files after Nero's "Tr

I've two files both are about 850MB, one is in .mpeg and the other is in .avi, however when Nero "Transcode" these two files (both using the same specs, (e.g 4:3/704X480/5073kbps....), the .mpeg file became about the same as the original file size, however the .avi file became 3.7GB, how come? Thanks for your feedback/help.

How Can I Capture Movies From DVR- Edit On PC Software?

I'm looking for the preferred method/software for capturing a movie from TV onto DVD (+R/RW or -R/RW) using an STB DVR; then loading it to the hard drive on my PC. Using the PC, I want to edit it to clean up any unwanted scenes, commercials, etc.; add an opening title; then burn that compilation to DVD +R.

I am quite familiar with using DVD Shrink to edit & burn movies when backing them up ...

problems with DVD compatibility & burning

I captured a movie from my 8mm camera to .avi format. Then I used TMPGEnc to encode it to mpg format. I used ULead DVD to make a movie with menu's, etc. and burned it to DVD.

I can play the burned DVD in my DVD player and my cousin's DVD player and it plays fine throughout.

But when I play it in my Aunts DVD player (the person I actually made the DVD for), ...

video format conversion

I have a Plextor PXM402U capture device and the Intervideo WInDVD creator that came with it. I use that program to capture video from a camcorder. I have been trying to use Pinnacle Studio 9 to edit and develop the video. When I try to import a segment captured with Win DVD into Studio 9 I get the message "cannot open this progressive scan non-interlaced MPEG2 video file format." There are no options for other ...

How do I Connect my VCR to my PC??

Sorry if this is a bit basic, but I am on the verge of buying a new PC, and would like to copy some old family videos to my PC. I don't have a video camera so how do I physically connect my PC and VCR. I've seen loads of video-editing software about, but what about actually connecting the two items.
Cheers,
Richard
