im having problems burning at 4x when i try to burn it it says power callibration error after approx 2 mins i updated the firmware but dont know whether i used the right one or not. how can i check the version and change to the correct one?

You can use CD Speed or Infotool to tell you the firmware version. Both can be downloaded from www.cdspeed2000.com.

It's possible that the drive died. The DVR-106 is pretty old.

Could be the media. What are you using ?
My pioneer 106D is still working fine with 4x media,8x media gets allready more mixed and 16x will be really tricky (it likes verbatim 16x however !!)
Trying to make something "foolproof" only forces nature to make a better fool.

My Pio 106 also has some trouble with some poor media so I just give him good ones. It eats them like charm!

My advice, by good media, in the long term, it will be cheaper! :wink:

I thought I was the only one with a DVR-106D still in the PC. I keep it around for all the old TY and Ricoh I purchased years ago. The newer media goes in the Pioneer DVR-111.
