theres nothing really to taking apart a optical drive's shell casing, just a few screws
just to let you know my 166s bit the dust after about 5 months of use, course were talking about me, i used that thing so heavy, probably the worst abuser on these forums
considering i always did movie copied directly from it to my dvd burner, and ive probably burned roughly 800 movies with the 166s as my reader
and besides its not like JLMS drives are known for there rock solid build quality and longevity, so far my aopen 1640 pro-a (pioneer 106s) lasted me 3 years, still using it to this day for my movie copying
