How to convert MPG, AVI, etc. files to play on stand alone?

Postby Roberto on Fri Mar 12, 2004 11:49 am

I recently installed a Plextor px708a with the supplied Roxio software. So far things are working fine, I have backed up most of my music and video files in preparation for a HD reformat. I noticed that the video files will not play in my Technics DVD-A10 player (I didn't really expect them to). The player recognizes the disc, it just won't decode the files on it. What kind of decoder do I need to convert the files to a format my player will recognize? I didn't notice anything in the Roxio software that was designed to do that, or did I just miss it?
Thanks!

Alternately, use this link that Ian posted in another thread. Instead of loading a .dat file, simply load the .avi or .mpg that you want to prepare for DVD burnination. For the record, TMPGEnc is a nifty program.
