Problem's burning DVD-R's?

Postby mikeb on Wed Apr 21, 2004 10:53 am

I've got a Lite-on 811S dual format DVD burner and have successfully burned a number of DVD+RW's and DVD+R's, but the two times I've tried to burn a DVD-R, Nero gets about two-thirds the way thru the burn process and fails. Should I try a different brand of media or there something else I should try. The reason I'd like to try a -R is because my standalone DVD player is old (Pioneer DV414) and doesn't seem to be able to handle the +R's. I get some pixelation and stuttering during playback. They play fine on my PC DVD drive and I've tried them on a few friends newer standalones, with no problems, so I'm pretty sure its my player and not the DVD itself, but before I bought a newer player I wanted to see if -R's might work. Thanks,

Mike

what brand media - are you using?Maxell and Verbatim are best bets, also Ritek.
What speed are you burnin' the +R's at and what brand are you usin'?
Go here, here and here to see what media is best for your drive.
We have an old Pioneer dv333 and it plays everything.

I've had success burning with Imation +R, although I have had trouble playing them in my standalone players (as I mentioned, I've had some friends try them and they play in their players). But both times I've tried to burn to a Memorex 4X -R Nero has reported that the burn didn't complete. The Imations burn at 2.4x. The first time I tried the Memorex -R, I think it burned at 4x, then the second one I tired I set the burn speed to 1x and had the same problem.

first mike, don't use memorex - Media. Most likely CMC media brand.
It does sound like Nero is having a malfunction or the lite on doesn't like junk media cause my memorex + media(ricoh jpn01,same as imation you use most likely)burns at 8x and plays fine on a pioneer dv333.It also plays my maxell and verbatim - media burn't at 4x.That pioneer plays everything!!!!Try Maxell - if you can.Fantastic media. Also verbatim -,works very well for me at 4x burn.Get most of it at offoce depot or est buy(on sale though). Are you using nero 6?

they are identical except for a couple of typos fixed in the 4th one...
maybe some mod will come along and delete the first 3...

only a mod/admin can.
if it really bothers you, PM Ian, CDRecorder or some other admin.
