Best to save being upset (in a polite way) for the judge. If your passenger can also provide information, tell the police you disagree with them, but be polite, and ask for their badge numbers, then write them down so you can provide them in court. Police are inclined to take any loud behavior as either obnoxiousness, posturing (like the "I'll get my lawyer" type folks), or being uncooperative. If you're polite, they can't tell the judge "The defendants were uncooperative and behaved in a threatening manner", etc. Being polite lets you go to the judge and then tell him/her that the police were extremely rude to you (write down everything they said to you and the time and date, and testify to it) despite the fact that you gave them your utmost respect. You cannot realize how much this truly impacts the process, but it does.

If you weren't speeding, take it to court. Bring your friend with to testify on your behalf, dress one step up from what you regularly wear, and if you have to kiss the judge's butt at high noon on the courthouse lawn to get off, do it. Just don't lose your cool.

Excellent points LoneWolf!
I basically agree 100% with your advice.

Being rational, calm, polite can go a *very* long way in this world, not just in court.
If you get upset or mad in court, the judge will most likely automatically be inclined to lean towards believing the police's version of events, assuming they are calm and collected.

Good luck and safe driving!

I went to talk to the prosecutor today to see about getting this ticket lowered or dropped. We talked for a few and he asked me if I had an attorney and I told him I did and was planning on fighting this. He offered me a deferral program and dropped the ticket down to 80 in a 55. This means that as long as I dont get another ticket for 6 months that it will be dropped off of my driving record like it never happened. I call this blackmail personally but hey I get to keep my license.Only a few counties here in Indiana offer this I got lucky to get the ticket in a county that does. Instead of a $124 ticket it now comes to $300.Now just to make sure I dont get caught again for 6 months or else the ticket goes on my record which means I pay the $124 too plus I lose my license.

Yeah, that's a straight up jack but you get to save money on lawyer fees and keep your license. That's actually a pretty good deal in the long run.

i too got a ticket last week.
arrived at my home by registered mail!

for speeding - 75km/h in a 50km/h zone. (for the illiterate: 47mp/h in a 31mp/h zone).

caught by one of those automated cameras.
damn.
i usually look out for those, and slow down next to them.
not that i speed that much...
i generally consider myself a rather good and careful driver (but i know i'm not always :D )

and it was on my way to the dentist's LOL.
didn't know they had those cameras in that area...
that turned out to be an expensive visit.
10 minute checkup including 2 X-rays...turns out the most expensive part was the ticket hah.
my dentist's checkups are always short and cheap.
often they say something along the lines of: "if everybody had teeth like you, we'd be out of business"

anayway, this is my first speeding ticket ever.
having had a driver's license since 1986 that's not too bad.
fine was 750 shekels, roughly $165.
i guess i'll have to pay up.

I've NEVER had a speeding ticket.

Not a single one.

I did once get a by-law ticket in Toronto for making a right turn once.
I was already in the turn lane waiting for the intersection to clear, and made the turn. The clock changed to 5pm (the start of the no turn time) while I was waiting for traffic.
$12 CDN to the City Of Toronto (15 years ago now). No points on the licence, nothing on the driver's licence record.

Now that doesn't mean I don't speed.

I remember going 185km/hr in a Ford Windstar minivan @ 06:00hrs on the 402 Hwy. near Strathroy. The police whip antenna's howl in the wind at that speed.

I also never had a speeding ticket, well got one is very difficult here :D

But last year I got a ticket for passing on a red light. A mistake I made because i follow the car ahead of me thinking the green light was on. The most idiot thing is that in that semaphore is never a single police and all public transportation ignore that particular red light, so my anger was not the ticket for me but to not fine others that made this like national sport.
Ciao,

Tired of hackintoshes and went with the real deal.
