what program would i use to check for disc errors?

You have to be a bit more specific. If you want to scan for (recoverable) errors like C1/C2, see the recommendations in this post. If you want to check if your files are readable (i.e. that there are no unrecoverable errors), use a check summer such as http://www.elpros.si/CDCheck/
