How to flash rebadged ASUS CRW-5224A cdrw drive?

Postby computation on Mon Jul 12, 2004 9:27 pm

I bought an ASUS CRW5224A cdrw drive(52x24x52x). It's firmware version is
1.20. When I tried to upgrade its firmware, the utility tells me it can't
find the device to upgrade. I guess the reason is, the burner is
recorgonized as "CRW5224A", instead "ASUS CRW5224A". That is, the part
"ASUS" is missing in the name. What I can do for this situation? Thanks.

Can you please post the Show Summary information for the drive from DISCInfo? The flash tool looks extremely easy to modify ;)

Thanks for your help, dhc014. It's still the same situation though: can't find the device to upgrade.

Hmm, looks like it will require a better patcher than I. Sorry.

You can give this one a try: http://codeguys.rpc1.org/temp/CRW5224A_140_forOEM.rar

Thanks fo code65536 for this one! We really don't know if these will work cause we cannot test them ourselves.

:( Still doesn't work. Thanks for your patience and help. But this one makes a big improvement. No warning msg. It entered the main window.

The problem is, under the "select source" slide menu, there is no drive (or, empty). So I can't select the drive to flash.

Maybe just one more small step. BTW can you make it to flash the drive to a regular "ASUS CRW-5224A" model # so I can apply later ASUS updates? Anyway thanks again. Thanks code65536 also.

Do you have the drive attached to an addon IDE controller or something? What OS? If these updates require DOS, are you flashing from true DOS and not just a command prompt? Have you tried flashing from another computer?
