Is this a Plextor drive?

How fast is too fast?

Is this a Plextor drive?

Postby J. Brown on Thu Feb 12, 2004 2:17 pm

I recently purchased a SCSI CD-ROM drive off of ebay. It was advertised as the 40x Plextor. However, it was taken out of an IBM server computer, and therefore looked different. When I hooked it up, I noticed that it showed up as IBM CDRM00203 on my computer. Is there some way for me to verify that this drive was manufactured by Plextor? If it is, is there any difference between this and a regular Plextor drive? Thanks.

Nero InfoTool lists the firmware as version 1_02. However for some reason it lists the read speed as 8.0x and the write speed as 52x even though it identified it as a CD-ROM drive. All of the features boxes are marked with with squares instead of the normal checks. Maybe it can't identify the drive for some reason?

Dear J. Brown,
Hi.Nero InfoTool sometimes screws up.Once it detected that my Samsung CD-ROM SC-152C capable of writing DVD+R/RW.......I was shocked to know that I had a DVD+R/RW burner in my computer for so long......except it doesnt burn any DVD's
Try using a different application as CD/DVD Device Capabilities Viewer.More info available at www.bustrace.com
See ya later,

Some more info would be helpful. Scan or photograph the white sticker on the top surface of the drive. That should give the right info to help you.
