What's the difference between........

Postby lfcfan on Thu Aug 12, 2004 4:33 am

.....a Pioneer A07LXA and a Pioneer 107D apart from one being retail and the other OEM? I was sent the 107D instead of the A07LXA that I ordered and I'm just wondering if it's worth my while arranging for an exchange? Thanks!

Well, price difference, and the A07XLA actually looks hundreds of times better than the 107D. In short, yes, exchange it, it should be at no cost to you since it looks like they fuc*ed up.

they're mostly the same, but the exterior is different. A07XL is much nicer like aviationwiz said.
also the exterior case of the A07XL is designed differently, is supposedly made in such a way as to reduce sound.

The DVR-A07XL also incorporates Pioneer's new "Quiet Drive" technology. Part of this new technology is the honeycomb design you see in the picture above. According to Pioneer, this design helps reduce vibration caused by the drive mechanism. When combined with the DVR-A07XL's performance adjusting firmware and sound proof pads, this honeycomb design helps reduce noise by up to 75%.

(Ian's review http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=225 )

if you paid for the XL model, you should definitely demand one.
if you paid less for the OEM 107D, it's up to you if you want to spend the extra money and get the extra features. (and the extra hassle of exchange)

as far as functioning as a DVD writer, they're the same.

There's also a DVR-A07.. notice there's no XL on the end. It's essentially a retail version of the 107.

Not to be patronizing (and I'm not intending to be!) but are you sure you got a 107? I only ask because the A07/XL's show up as 107D's in firmware/most burning software, so it could confuse you if you just put the drive in and checked with Nero or the like to find out what burner it is.

If your drive has the special black/white/silver faceplate with the silver eject button and the honeycomb pattern on the top then you do have the XL model. The other way to check using software is explained here.

I'm positive it's a 107D as I've seen a pic on the net, it's a bog standard looking drive and I've flashed the firmware for a 107D and it works fine.
