Join The CDRLabs Team

Postby Ian on Tue Aug 03, 2004 12:21 pm

First off, I just wanted to give everyone a little background on the situation. When we first formed CDRLabs, we had a group of about 4-5 guys. Since then, I've sort of taken the lead role while the other guys have become dads or started their own businesses. Needless to say, Socheat and I are pretty much holding down the fort these days.

Since I got married, the amount of time I've been able to spend on CDRLabs has gone down.. a lot. I'd like to do a lot more, but I just don't have the time. In the next year or so, this time is going to go down even more. While I have tossed around the idea of throwing in the towel and/or writing for someone else, I prefer to do my own thing. Instead, I'd rather take the time I have to help others make CDRLabs better while continuing to write here and there.

So that brings us to the current situation. I've talked to Socheat and we're working on adding a number of new features. To do so, we're going to need to bring in some new blood. Yes, here is your chance to get an inside look at the optical storage industry and join the CDRLabs team.

In the past, I've tried bringing in new people but haven't had a lot of luck. While there seems to be a lot of very knowledgable people out there, most either a) don't want to spend the time writing reviews b) don't do it well or c) just can't do it in a timely manner. As the saying goes.. good help is hard to find.

Unfortunately, I haven't found a solution. Some ideas have been to a) pay these people (along with the option to keep the hardware they reviewed) and/or b) having them sign a legal agreement stating that they will complete the review in some time period or such and such will happen. This isn't exactly my forte, so I have not worked out all of the details as of yet. If you have ideas, please let me know.

Without spilling the beans on some of our plans, here are some of the positions I'm looking to fill:

* News editors
* Writers - hardware, software, misc
* "Hot Deals" manager (this is still up in the air since we've been contacted by a few deal sites, asking us to partner with them)
* Forum moderators (some of our current moderators are MIA, so we need some people to fill there shoes)

Previous writing/reviewing experience is preferred, but not necessary.
I'd also prefer to have people from the US or Canada, but I won't turn a qualified person down just because they're from Timbuktu.

If you're interested, send me an email with: a short resume and a paragraph or two explaining why you'd like to join CDRLabs and why you think you'd be a good choice.

Please feel free to comment on anything said here. I'm not only looking for people, I'm looking for ideas.

Make me a mod.
A man has been charged after allegedly punching a 73-year-old woman in the face, breaking her nose and stabbing her in the arm with a corkscrew before hitting a second woman with a bottle at a wedding reception in the Whitsunday Islands.

When I do finally make it to Wisconsin, I'm just going to sneak into your computer room at night and log in as you and make myself a mod.

Yes! Try Yoga, so some Sukhasanas and Surya Namaskarams should get you to relax a bit, and in the meantime, you can let me pester Lite-On on your behalf if you so wish.
