No idea about performance yet.

BenQ dvd+r media works great with BenQ DW822A, so I guess it works well for newer models, too.
Media scan for BenQ dvd+r media can be found here:

BenQs are really know for their + media and with bitsetting you should have equal or better compatiability as you would from -. If you have problems go with + media next time something like Prodisc R03 8x which burn at 12x or 16x and are usually 50 cents a disk or premium media would be TY 8x which burns at 12x or 16x for 90cents. I just ordered a Dw1620 also (along with Prodisc R03). I just wish it would do ricohjpnr01s at 8x.

If it's made by daxon it should work at 16x with the BenQ DW1620

BenQ's 8x DVD+Rs are indeed carrying a Daxon code (Does Daxon have a Malaysian plant??) and the 4x DVD-Rs use a Sony code. I suspect the Sony code may not be legitimate since I don't think Sony uses a Malaysian OEM for their media (only their own Austrian plant, and Lead Data in Taiwan I believe).

I *STILL* can't find BenQ 8x DVD-Rs though... only the 8x DVD+Rs.

Daxon 8x DVD-R with code DAXON008S works at 16x. So does SONY08D1 too which is also manufactured by daxon.

Daxon manufacture most sony media, both CD-R and DVD-R, maybe also some DVD+R - but they are often made by ritek with ricoh code.

This is what I know:

Sony 4x DVD+Rs: Ritek made, with Ricoh code (RICOHJPNR01)
Sony 4x DVD-Rs: Sony code (SONY04D1) (could be Sony or Daxon?)
Sony 8x DVD+Rs: Sony code (too lazy too look up!) (made by Sony)
Sony 8x DVD-Rs Sony code (SONY08D1) (made by Sony)

BenQ 4x DVD-Rs: Sony code (SONY04D1) Made by Daxon in Malaysia
BenQ 8x DVD+Rs: Daxon Code (DAXONAZ2) Made by Daxon in Malaysia

The only one on this list I don't currently own is the Sony 4x DVD-Rs. I believe they are Sony's own made in Austria.

Also, all of Sony's CD-Rs that *I'VE* ever seen have been made by Lead Data. Sometimes with a Sony code, and sometimes with a Lead Data code. I've never seen any Sony CD-Rs that looked different.

I went to one store here in Ottawa, and they only had the 8x -R and the package says Made in Malaysia. They didn't have any +R. I didn't check the other 3 stores in the city.

Dang! I need the 8x DVD-Rs too, so I can compare against REAL Sony media...

Hi Guys.

Heres the info, the DVD-R's i purchased are SONY08D1 code. & i also purchased Benq 8X DVD+R are DAXON AZ2,

Both types of medias saying 16X with this burner.

I know the DAXON media is good with this drive, i saw review at www.cdrinfo.com

I dont know if the Sony Media is good.. i'll test it out of course.

Thanks Guys
