My Verbatim DL Experience...question too

Postby jberry on Sat Sep 04, 2004 9:44 pm

Well,

Just burned my first Verbatim Dual Layer DVD....project was making the Two Towers Extended version into 1 DVD dual layer....easy to do...67 chapters though!!!! DVD Shrink made it in at 86%...3 hrs 55 mins....very nice. Tested in Toshiba, Daytek, Polaroid portable, and Panasonic player. Bitsetting was to DVD-ROM....NO ISSUES on set-top playback..very nice. No noticeable layer break either...recorded on OTP on LG4120b....

So what is my question/problem? Well I cannot read the dual layer DVD I made (after burning of course) in my LG-4520 combo drive (does DVDs read and CDs RW). Should this type of burn be readable anywhere...says no media present...DVDInfo pro says same thing. Reads fine in my burner and on the 4 standalones so far. What is going on here?

It just means your LG-4520 can not read DL media.

ah...I figured that,

is strange though and shows you that DVD 9 is still weird...one would think that if a commercial DVD can be read than DL should be as well.

Any combo drives that can?

Not at all strange. Commercial DVD? You mean pressed DVD9? Pressed DVD9 and DVD+R DL are different.

Just get a cheap DL burner as it can read and burn DL DVD.

yes pressed.....I know they are different but, if my set-top, which is 3 yrs old can read DL I would think my computer's combo drive (6 mos old) could as well....no big deal really as you say, but this will put some people off I think.

What technically is different?

thanks for your posts....my dual layer experiment is working pefectly
