Program that ignores the 480x480 res when doing SVCD-DVD

Postby grouch on Sun Sep 05, 2004 10:52 pm

I currently use SVCD2DVD to convert and patch the res value to 720x480.
Then I use TMPGAuthor to author the DVD.
But Toshiba standalone dvd player doesn't play it.
So is there a DVD authoring program that disregards what the res value is and let me author re-encoded svcd files that have 480x480 as the res value??
TMPGEnc Author only allows files with standard DVD res values.
Thanks.

Unfortunatly the answer is no,480x480 isn't in the NTSC DVD specs.
You will have to reencode to 352x240 or 720x480.

I'm a newbie, but in theory, after i author the dvd using TMPGEnc Author, I still need to use SVCD2DVD to repatch the vob files that are 720x480 back to 480 x 480.
So I'm assuming that the Toshiba player only allows NTSC DVD specs, and the only way for me to fix that would be to "stretch" the horizontal value from 720 to 480?? (which is impossible, right?)

Here's what I would do if you still have the SVCD discs:
1.Use IsoBuster(free) to extract the AVSEQ01.DAT files to MPEG.
2.Use TMPGEnc to convert to 352x480(NTSC spec),then use MPEG Tools to merge the files(unless you want seperate tracks).
3.Author with DVD Author.
352x480 is close enough that you won't lose much quality.
