For those in the US, October 15th is the day. How much? Only $149 for the internal.

Does anyone know if two these drives can be run in the same box off two separate E-IDE channels? I'm plannin' on gettin' two of 'em when they become available.

Glad I didn't get the NEC 3500a drive as the PX-716a is the drive I'm going to be getting next as soon as prices drop for DL media and they become widely available.

Hrrrm, has anyone heard a WORD about the PX605? (the supposed Panasonic rebrand that handles DVD-RAM) Seems like it's dropped off the face of the earth.

Hrm... still not holding my breath. It's nice to see Plextor finally adding some inter-burn quality control though. But the PX-712a had similar burn quality variations from drive to drive as current LiteON DVD burners! Still.... I'll probably end up having to buy one if only to compare the Q-Check results with those of the PX-712a

Looks good. This "Autostrategy" seems to be a step beyond WOPC- I think that'll be the way to go to adapt to new media types!

PX716-A

Postby Rich on Mon Sep 27, 2004 1:56 pm

Ooooooooooooooo....

...aaAAaaHHHHHHH

I think that new strategy thing is just a prelude to even faster speeds and the 716 is where they'll test it. Once proven and working that could be the next biggest improvement since buffer under run protection.

Actually it seems so natural to be able to inspect what they are doing while they do it and adjust. Especially with buffer under run protection providing the ability to stop and look.

Plus this stop, look, adjust and continue would only be milli seconds.

It should happen continuously. Actually they could do like hard disks and mark bad spots so when the data is read it's skipped over.

Wow, that would be like taking the most modern optical storage and bringing it up to the tech level of MFM!

How many of you's remember this: g=c800:5

I'm all over this drive... :) =P~

Then again, that's to be expected from me. ;)

I wonder if Ahead will get this drive to do bitsetting like they got the PX-712A to do that.

As DVDDecrypter is doing it too, Ahead is only using a firmware functionality delivered by Plextor. Stop this myth...

And yes, there will be a Plextor 716SA. After a while...

Are any performance diferences between the ATA and the SATA versions ?!

Anyone tried the 712SA ?! Is SATA stable on a DVD-RW drive ?

And the noise of them ? are equal ?

If you have questions about the 712A/SA, I recommend posting a separate topic.

Why is it that Plextor America doesn't offer PLEX TOOLS with the 716A drive? They have junky EASY CD/DVD CREATOR instead of NERO BURN. I see Plextor Europe includes PLEX TOOLS with their 716A.

Geez I forgot how to install the PLEX TOOLS! #-o
