Nero ShowTime won't play commercial DVDs

Postby Sgt.Torg on Wed Sep 29, 2004 9:07 pm

Hi, All:

I can't get Nero ShowTime to play any commercial DVD. However, it will play DVDs I've created in NeroVision Express with no problems. I can successfully play commercial DVDs in WMP 9 with Nero Digital plug-in :-? ShowTime will also play MPEG and AVI files just fine.

When I try to play a commercial DVD in ShowTime, the video window re-sizes briefly, asks if I want to start DVD from the beginning (or not), then nothing happens. The DVD is being recognized as it's name appears in "Select Source" next to the appropriate drive letter, but no playback occurs at all :(

Any ideas? I've tried turning hardware acceleration on/off, but I don't know what else to try. I would prefer to use ShowTime rather than WMP for playing DVDs, if possible...

Running WinXP SP2 (clean install), NBR 6.3.1.25, NVE 2.1.2.21 (includes ShowTime 1.5.0.41). DVD drive is Plextor PX-712A (with latest firmware). Here is my InfoTool.txt file, if it helps. Any advice is appreciated...

well i guess showtime is ok for watching movies, has all the basic dvd playing features, but if you watch a lot of movies on your computer you might want to get PowerDVD or WinDVD

i recommend PowerDVD
Thermaltake Core X5 Snow Edition TG Case
Corsair RM1000 Power Supply
MSI X399 Gaming Pro Carbon AC
AMD Threadripper 1950x @ 4.1GHz
Custom Loop w/ EK MSI x399 Monoblock
G.Skill 4x8GB DDR4 3200 RGB Memory
MSI 1080Ti Lightning X Video Card

Watching DVDs with Nero Showtime

I agree with hoxlund. Nero Showtime is the worst performing DVD player I've seen. I've used both PowerDVD and WinDVD without any problems at all, in Showtime however the playback is choppy and distorted. I love Nero Burning ROM but I think Ahead have a lot of catching up to do with their other software.
