i think that a spindle w/ dark grey base is optodisc and light grey is ritek but i am not the expert. i hoping we get a response from the "king of blank media-dolphinius_rex"

Sorry, cake boxes are too generic to really be able to tell media manufacturer just by the colour of their bottoms (unless you have additional knowledge about the brand). I can do some checking around, but I think the price is a little low for Optodisc, and deffinatly too low for Ritek (unless it's "B Grade" or a really REALLY smoking deal...). My first thought is maybe a cheapo no name manufacturer, but I could be wrong.

Wow... that means that the media is one of two things:

#1: this media is made by Prodisc, and is not real MCC or up to MCC standards (which aren't as great as they used to be anyways...)

#2: This media is counterfeit MCC, like the stuff floating around Europe...

Too hard to tell which it would be, but I can easily say that it isn't real MCC made in Singapore/Taiwan.

Velocity 8x DVD-R Inkjet Printable 100 Pack Spindle:

"some disks with mmc code are actually made at cmc plant in tiawan. I believe this may be why so many have trouble with these disks. mmc japan very good; mmc coded cmc taiwan - watch out."

Velocity 8x DVD+R 25 Pack Spindle:

"DVD Identifier informed me that these discs are made by Prodisc, which isn't a very good media manufacturer, so I would not trust these discs for important data archival over a couple years.

Rumor has it the 100 pack of these Velocity DVD+Rs are made by Mitsubishi Chemical. They still have the shiny tops that I don't like, but those should last a lot longer, if they are in fact made by Mitsubishi."
