Jamos just posted on another thread that plextor will release fw 1.01 soon and it will have pi/po level fix as well a fix for problems with 16x burning. How he knows this I dont know But usually Jamos's info is pretty good.

Maybe Aviationwiz's letter campaign worked?

  If they know what's good for them, when *I* start to complain about them, it's time to act, swiftly, & forcefully.

KenW wrote:We need to have second look at cd freaks 716 thread, it seems that problem with poor burns was not poor burns but that the 716a with px tools seems to have pi/po scan problem im some case it looks like the level are as much as 50% to 60% higher then the same disk scanned on 712a. This is also shown by a disk from my friends new 716a that scanned on my benQ and nu tech drives I got max pi under 100 but he got max pi on px tools scan of over 450.

This may be accurate but these are oversights that should not find there way into release firmware even if it is version 1.0
Plextor is sorely lacking in QC if they can let this slip by them...
We shall see if it is merely a "bug" or not I guess.
Remember Plextools 2.17 was released in anticipation of the 716 release as it has specific testing functions only available on the 716. You know they had to test this version with the 716. I mean what do they have the part time cleaning crews doing the QC on their designs...

This may explain the reason after we saw the not till nov 1st finding drives in best buy, my friend Mark who bought one today said BB had only 5 left he got one. It was all I could do not run over an get one of last 4, but im waiting for newegg to get the oem so I can get drive with out all extra stuff to add cost.

Ya it probably does. I called Best Buy yesterday and they said that they had a shipment coming in that evening so it's possible that they received the new Plextor drive. I will have to go and check it out!

Yes they do at least at my local frys. I could not stand it any longer I bought one.

PS

It to seems show this same odd very high pie level on the px scans but the disk scan fine with liteon, benQ and nu tech. So lets hope they fix this on next fw jamos talked about.

I wait patiently until Newegg.com has the Plextor 716A in stock. I'll have money to burn by then. A birthday and christmas gift to myself!
Although reading the stuff at cdfreaks.com I'm still gonna purchase one. I did the same thing when purchasing the 708A. Then probably after getting the 716A I'll get the Pioneer 109!

Little gift for you nice people It would seem if you turn off power-rec thats plextors speed reduction while burning option your burn improves; I have noticed on both my 716 and my friends that on some media the power-rec function will slow a burn down to in some cases two speed below fw set max. This speed change can come anytime after you start a burn i have seen it burn 8x to about 1.5gb then slow to 4x or burn till it hits 8x then jump to 4x, I think they have this set to tight. and next fw maybe they will relax it a bit

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.php?p ... tcount=156

this is the burn I did to cmc E01 media at 8x with power-rec set to off.

my local Best Buy didn't have a single Plextor drive on their shelves! In fact, the only drive they had was the 16x Pioneer!

:D At least there is VERBATIM 16X DVD+R discs for sale at Best Buy. Hawaii doesn't have a Best Buy store yet, they're in the process of building 2 of them which will not open up till Fall 2005.

Ya, but at $27.99 per 25 pack spindle, your better off purchasing a less expensive brand of 8x disc that is designed to burn at 16x on your specific recorder.

It's strange that it's taking Best Buy so long to get over to Hawaii!

In the beginning of the planning phase there was opposition by the neighborhood board because of the traffic concerns in that area. That area already has traffic from other stores along that highway such as CIRCUIT CITY & a shopping mall. It will be interesting to have Best Buy down the street from the only CIRCUIT CITY store we have here in Hawaii. The other store will be in town near COSTCO & HOME DEPOT. There are many stiff regulations here in Hawaii to open up a business. In the last few years they've modified some of the laws here so it's not such a pain in the ass to open up a business.

The prices of the 16x speed discs will drop in price as everything else does when new technology unfolds. I can only hope the prices will drop fast! :D

Looks like Newegg raised the price today.

I placed an order for the drive yesterday at $129.99 with a $30 MIR. But now its at $146.99 with a $30 MIR.
