Check out the review of the LG DRD-8160B. You will notice that the drive performed very well when reading dirty and scratched discs.
No, I like women.

Scratched Audio CDs or DVDs?

On most drives there is a difference between the two and very few are good at both (unfortunately).

I would also like to find the best dvd-rom for ripping scratched
"dvd-r/dvd+r" media,
I have an Nec 2500ND with updated firmware and it is useless at reading scratched dvd media. So if anybody can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

For badly scratched CDs, I use Matshita CR-177 and Audiograbber. If I have failed with my drives (Toshiba & Philips) and with the Plextor of my friend, I use Matshita. It is a generic 24X CD-ROM and has never failed to rip so far - no need to use the analog mode.

It even rips some protected CDs (by EMI). Too bad it is a slimline CD. :(
