anyone know when the benq 1620 pro is coming out?

Postby ramlin on Sun Nov 07, 2004 8:13 am

the subject line says it all - I would like to burn a DVD burner and the benq 1620 has grabbed my "buy button" - but I would prefer to wait until the pro version comes out - anyone knows when that will be?

It seems Benq are going to offer a free "pro" upgrade for 1620 users, I believe the firmware is in beta release and being tested as we speak...so go ahead and buy a Benq, you will not regret it :)

Yeah, the only real benefit of waiting for the "pro" is the better software bundle (Nero vs. Sonic/InterVideo). The upgrade will be available next month. I'm guessing he actual "pro" drive will be available about the same time.

well, i'd give it another month to drift across the ocean and arrive in the Holy Land.

ramlin, Lamir is the only online shop i can see that has the 1620.
859 + 39 = 898 shekels (roughly $200).
(well, the only place www.zap.co.il has them listed).

if i'm not mistaken, they are the same hardware, you can get it already and upgrade later.

i don't know why it's so expensive here. there are plenty of cheaper drive to be found.

dodecahedron, it's NIS690 at Bug (I googled benq dw 1620 and restricted myself to il sites). I have no idea why this drive is so expensive in the holy land nor why Lamir (which usually sells drives at a good price) are selling the benq at such an expensive price...In the meantime I await the pro version, since it would be nice to get nero reloaded with the drive - however, sinve my savlinut (patience) isn't very good - I'll probably buy the 1620 next week or so - BTW, how's your LG shaping?

some of the stuff Lamir sells is at a very good price, some not so at all!

DVD burners - the NEC 3500 they sell for the best price in Israel. other drives quite expensive!
it doesn't make sense.

I meant this month... it's November now, right?

Anyway, we already have the B7P9 firmware. However, we have not heard when it will be released to the public.

Even if they do release the firmware this week, it doesn't mean that the DW1620pro will be out at this time.
