Mounting-Screw Type for Optical-Drive

Postby kinemax on Sun Nov 14, 2004 1:37 am

I just bought a NEC ND3500A OEM drive which came without the mounting screws. What is the type of machine screws used for mouting these drives?

TIA.

I THINK it uses the fine thread versions that are the same size as the regular 1/4 head regular thread case screws. I know some of my drives use the fine threads, just not positive which ones now. Basicly if it doesn't start to thread you got the wrong pitch so try the other one rather then strip out the nounting holes.
Obviosly dont use very long ones to avoid possible damage to internal components.

 Hox, not everyone has a bin of extra screws, cables, heatsinks, power supplies, etc... like you , myself and probably 2/3 of the regulars on the forum do. He just needs to make a quick little trip to his local computer store and get what he needs at 5 or 10 cents a piece. Just tell them you need to mount a drive and they will show you their bin. Then get home and enjoy your new NEC! Great drive!

you probably could take your drive with you and test some screws out

just make sure the heads are larger head so it catches onto the case

I think they are M4 - metric. They are not the same as the ones that you use on hard drives.

Thanks for the replies and pointers. I did tried several types of mounting screws from my "computer-bin" but none of them fit. I am hoping I can get the sufficient spec. info to find the screws at a RadioShack or a hardware store, as I don't have a CompUSA store nearby.

Go to any computer store and ask for 4 optical drive mounting screws. They'll give them to you.

I found and bought the mounting screws at a local Sears Hardware store: they are metric M3 type.
