Ram question

Postby DOGSNOTZ on Mon Nov 15, 2004 8:37 pm

I have an Asus A7n8X-VM/400 mobo that I put a single 256mb stick of cheap DDR3200 in to get me by until I could afford something better. I have a choice of buying 2 265mb sticks of quality ram to run in dual channel mode, or one 512 meg stick of quality ram to hold me off till I can afford another 512 stick to run in dual mode. What would you do?

TIA
Mike

Two 512MB sticks is a better long term solution, but I'd want exact matched RAM, which is difficult to do if you buy modules at different times. Manufacturers can change the chips they are using on a module they sell from time to time due to price, availability, and performance. Being picky, I'd probably buy two quality matched 256MB modules right now.

I'd go with the 512 stick, and run it single channel. Its not that big of a deal, when you buy the next stick of 512 just make sure the timmings are the same. RAM will just run at the speed of the slower module, no biggy (since it won't be much different at all). :D

Otherwise you'll be stuck with a bunch of 256mb sticks, and you'll be like "damn, what do I buy now", and then you'll be stuck and consider buying two more sticks of 256mb, and that would suck.

Boost Mobile stole my minutes, then would rather loose me as a customer than give back my minutes (thieves).
