Plextor PX-716A Shipment Update

Postby Ian on Tue Nov 16, 2004 3:12 pm

Disclaimer:

1. This is for the US. I don't know what Plextor is doing in Asia and Europe

2. Yes, I'm well aware some Best Buy stores have the drive in stock already. This is for everywhere else

Now that I got that out of the way... Plextor America got back to me on the status of the PX-716A. In particular, I asked it they were going to ship it now or with the PX-716SA. According to them, it should start shipping en masse after Thanksgiving.

Based on Ian's comments shipments will begin in large quantities after Thanksgiving. That statement does not preclude minor shipments being made prior to Thanksgiving. It is important to note that TLA#0101 drives are already shipping in limited quantities and can also be found at some Best Buy stores.

At the beginning of the month I was trying to track this down and got told
Dear Mr. McCook:

Everything we have today is shipping to retail for the holiday season. We expect normal shipments will resume by the middle of November.

Thank you for your interest in Plextor and its products.

Howard Wing

I haven't heard back from my inquiry this week. The few online retailers I can find that have any information say they expect to have the drive in stock Jan 10, 2005

Yeah, it must have been one hell of a contract for Plextor to leave their drives in Bestbuy, but remove them everywhere else. You'd think Bestbuy would be more worried about the complaints and returns then the release date! :o

I just noticed that Best Buy has these drives on sale for $99.99 AFTER a $30.00 rebate. I'm almost tempted to buy one.

I find it interesting that only Best Buy has these drives and there is a rebate already in progress. In my opinion it's like Plextor doesn't have the confidence the drive will sell therefore they offer a rebate on a new released drive. In the past I've seen Plextor give out rebates on their older models because newer ones will be released.

Aviationwiz so are you gonna purchase one anytime soon? :) Hoxlund? :)

Well... at least that means that the TLA# 0101 drives might have been fixed. I haven't heard any complaints about them yet.
