Benq 1620 session fixation error

Postby seaegg on Fri Nov 19, 2004 1:49 pm

I tried burning a Maxell 8x DVD+R at 2.4x using DVD Decrypter & Nero and kept getting a session fixation error at lead in. I then tried burning the same iso file at 4x using DVD Decrypter and it burned with no problem. I then scanned the disc using CD-DVD Speed and got a score of 96 with PI errors: average 2.98 total 26298 PI failures: 0.21 total 1626 PO failures 344 which seemed to be right at the end of the disc. Is this a bad disc? I sure hope not because I bought a 25 spindle and this disc is like the 5th from the top.

Hrm... when I did the review on the BenQ DW1620, compatability with Maxell 8x media was pretty bad at higher speeds, but I didn't have 8x DVD+Rs and I didn't try at 4x. I *DO* have Maxell 8x DVD+Rs now, so I'll see if I can test it out for you later maybe tomorrow.

I chose another disc from my spindle and it burned without a problem at 2.4x. I then burned the same ISO again at 8x to the same type of disc Maxell 8x DVD+R. The scan results are below, let me know what you think.

File size: 4,681,433,088 bytes burned at 2.4 times scanned using Nero CD-DVD Speed.

Both scans are good. I'm used to looking at 8x scans on the BenQ though... but they should still be fine.

Am I right in assuming that the Benq 1620 will burn 4x DVD+Rs at 2.4x & 4x but will burn 8x DVD+Rs at 4x, 8x & higher but not at the slowest speed of 2.4x? I can't get it to burn 8x discs consistently at 2.4x. I either get a session fixation error regardless of the siftware I use or it simply ignores the 2.4x speed setting and burns the disc at 4x. The discs in question are 8x Maxell DVD+Rs. It also burns the Maxell 4x DVD-Rs (TY) at 4x only, then again that's the only write speed shown. However with +Rs it shows write speeds from 2.4 upwards.
