Tell me about "Princo"

Postby Pilgrim on Mon Nov 29, 2004 1:21 pm

I did a search in this Forum for "Princo", and very little was said about this name, e.g., if it represents a manufacturer, brand, etc., but more importantly whether CD-R's that bear that nomenclature are of good quality. The reason I'm asking is that the brand/type I have been using with excellent results, "FujiFilm 80 min 700 MB/Mo" individually packaged in slim jewel cases, is nearly impossible to find here in Canada and/or at a reasonable price. I found a great supplier in WA, state but the shipping cost for 5 pks of 10 (50 units) is $30, which is more than the cost of the discs. Image.

But, there is a local supplier that sells Princo 80min 56x Recordable CD disc (50pcs Spindle) for $16.99 Cdn. The price seems reasonable, but what about the quality of these discs?

Thanks,

Jeff

http://www.blankmedia.ca has great prices. 100 Ritek RiData 48x for $21.49 Cdn. 100 Taiyo Yuden 52x (the best in the business) for $48 Cdn. These are both excellent CDs.

PhotoJim,

Well, those prices are certainly attractive. I visited the site and on your personal recommendation, I ordered a 100 pc. stack of the Ritek RiData discs and 100 slim jewel cases too. There was only one Review for these Ritek discs and it was very favorable. So.... time will tell if this media works for me and if the company is reliable.

Thanks again for your input.

I bought 100 of them but haven't burned any yet. I can say without qualification that their DVD media is top notch, though. I bought ten and loved 'em so got a hundred more.

Let me know how you make out.

i dunno, searching the CD-R/W forum for "princo" gave lots of hits...

generally Princo is considered to be low quality media.
notorious for deteriorating after a rather short period - a few weeks or months.
i stay away from them.

(not personal experience with this media. but read many such opinions on the forums).

I'd say you made a very wise decision, Pilgrim, to purchase 100 Ritek discs for CDN$21.49. Princo discs have varying results, depending on which burner you are using them in. I would definitely trust my data more on Ritek discs as opposed to Princo.

Thanks for all the input guys...... especially since it would appear I did a Martha Steward "Good Thing!" hehe My Lite-on S42246S has been very good to me too. Haven't found much of anything it won't burn, especially after I upgraded the firmware. And a special thanks to PhotoJim for recommending "blankmedia.ca"!

You're welcome, Pilgrim :) I have made a couple of orders from them and am so far extremely happy.

You can peek at http://www.ncix.com occasionally too. Their media prices aren't bad, but their weekly sale prices are sometimes cheaper than blankmedia's and they are in Vancouver, which can result in cheaper shipping costs if you are in the western part of the country. I just bought some RAM and a new BenQ 52-32-52 burner from them - the latter cost me $23.99! Couldn't resist at that price, even though I already have a few burners.
